Being intelligence led is an essential element of the law enforcement response to protecting communities from harm, prioritising operational activity and ensuring the right assets are deployed in the right place and at the right time.
Information and intelligence are the life blood of policing and law enforcement and the effective management of this material ensures that sources are protected and acquisition is complimented by full exploitation and dissemination to the operational environment. This course is aimed at a basic level to those engaged as intelligence managers and operatives new in role. The concepts of information and intelligence management using the intelligence cycle and the National Intelligence Model will be explored. Students will be provided with opportunities to engage in the completion of intelligence reports and understand the processes required for effective sanitisation and dissemination as well as responsibilities associated with source protection.
Additional modules can be provided to build on the basic material previously provided. These specialist modules will address two distinct areas:
- The specific skills associated with using sensitive or covertly obtained material. This module will emphasise the need for effective operational and information security along with skills associated with parallel evidencing and exploitation of the complete intelligence picture by securing a single version of the truth.
- The strategic intelligence module is aimed at senior managers responsible for key intelligence based decision making. This module will provide the skills associated with completing a strategic assessment of risk and opportunity, from which an informed set of organisational priorities and a supporting control strategy can be developed. Delivery of the control strategy will be explained through a tactical tasking and coordination process.
