This five-day course looks at the political, economic, social and technological factors to be considered in operating amongst people in a hyper-connected world with social technologies. It explores the impact of social technologies on people’s work and personal lives, identifying trends and implications.
A range of technologies will be examined, looking at the preferences and reasons for their up-take. Participants will be introduced to planned communications using social media along as well as social media analytics that play an important role in preparing and managing campaigns as well as situational awareness. Risks associated with organisational and personal use will be explored such that the upside can be pursued, whilst mitigating the downside. An ethical approach to communication and analysis will be considered throughout the course.

There are no specific requirements for these un-accredited short courses but, please note they will all be taught in English.
This course is aimed at anyone in the military, security or corporate worlds who needs a short but intense introduction to social technologies and media and the personal and organisational implications for those engaged in contemporary security and conflict planning. Participants will leave the course better able to assess the risk and opportunities associated with social media. They will be able to take a systematic and considered view on their own personal use of a range of enabling technologies. Most importantly, a number of frameworks will help participants navigate social media issues and help integrate them into their day-to-day business and plans.
